FAQs

Most people have a host of questions they would like to ask before they start counselling.  Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions. If you want to discuss these further or have any additional questions, please get in touch and I'd be happy to answer them.

What happens at the first session?

In the first session we will discuss what you want to achieve from counselling and I will talk about the ways in which we might work together to achieve this.

How many sessions will I need?

I offer both short (6-12 sessions) and longer, ongoing courses of counselling. The number of sessions you will need will be discussed at your initial session and will depend on what you would like to achieve from counselling.  This will be reviewed regularly and can be changed accordingly.

How often will my sessions be?

Sessions are usually weekly and take place at the same time every week. Flexibility is available if required.

What happens if I miss a session?

There may be occasions when you need to reschedule or cancel a session and I will try to accommodate this where possible.  I do however ask for 4 working days notice, otherwise there will be a charge of £15.

Is everything confidential?

I work according to the BACP Ethical Framework, which requires me to keep all identifiable, personal information about clients confidential.

The only circumstances where confidentiality may be breached is I feel either the client or an other individual is at risk of harm.  In this situation, I would, where possible, notify the client of any disclosure.

Success! Message received.
